SERV Herts & Beds
I do hope that you and your families are well and are coping with the restrictions currently placed upon us all. Hopefully, in the not-too-distant future, we will see a further easing of those restrictions enabling Masonry to resume some sort of activity, although not necessarily as we knew it.
Quite rightly the media has been vociferous in praising the great work that the NHS and all other key workers have been doing to protect us during the current Covid-19 crisis. These key workers have been supplemented by many voluntary organisations including the SERV Herts & Beds Blood Bikes with which the Mark Province of Hertfordshire has a close association, having initially provided tabards for its members and more recently donated £2000 towards the cost of running a single Blood Bike for a year.
SERV Herts & Beds operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is currently extremely busy supporting the NHS by providing a number of essential services which include:
- Urgent delivery of blood for transfusions to hospitals.
- Urgent delivery of breast milk for babies in neonatal care.
- Transporting Coronavirus test samples for the NHS.
- Transporting Anti-body tests from Portland Down to London.
- Delivering biological samples, vaccines, medical notes, x-rays and scans to NHS hospitals and hospices.
The Province has recently become aware that the eldest of the four specialised and liveried motorcycles operated by SERV Herts & Beds is coming to the end of its productive life and will need replacing within the next 12 months at a cost of approximately £15,000.
Brethren, I believe that with your customary support and kind generosity, the Mark Province of Hertfordshire can provide this excellent support service with that much-needed replacement Blood Bike, in doing so it will allow the Mark Master Masons of Hertfordshire the ideal opportunity to acknowledge the valuable service provided by SERV Herts & Beds in the most tangible way.
I am therefore delighted to announce the launch of the Mark Province of Hertfordshire Blood Bike appeal which will run from July 2020 until July 2021.
The Provincial Grand Charity Steward, W. Bro David Horne, who will co-ordinate the appeal, will provide further information on how you can participate in this very important Provincial initiative in the very near future.
It is quite some time since the Province identified a specific charity initiative of its own and I feel confident this is one which will meet with your approval and support.
Richard M. Walker
Provincial Grand Master
Mark Province of Hertfordshire
