PGM’s Address to the Provincial VBM
Being your Provincial Grand Master I must obviously do my utmost to comply with the requirements of Mark Grand Lodge, so when Virtual Business Meetings (VBMs) were introduced with the recommendation that any address during a VBM should be short you can be assured that this particular address is likely to be the shortest of my Masonic career.
Of course we are all very familiar with the reasons why it has been virtually
impossible for Lodges to hold actual meetings since 17th March 2020. With the changes in both Masonic and governmental regulations however some have managed just that, whether under the ‘Rule of Six’ or by complying with the risk assessment requirements of our Masonic centres. Others have held VBMs, many of which I have had the pleasure of attending. I thank you all for doing your best to see that Mark Masonry did not just grind to a halt in your respective Lodges.
If I were to take time now to individually thank all those who have contributed to the smooth running of the Province since this time last year there is no way that this could be deemed a short address. I will expand on this topic at our September meeting but in the meantime my sincere thanks to you all.
Once again I congratulate those who have this afternoon received Provincial honours and I would remind you that such appointments are effective as of today’s date. It means that you should be able to serve a full year in your respective offices and represent the Province as of now. I hope that at our September meeting I will be able to invest you with your collars of office.
Luckily we had anticipated the ‘Freedom’ date of June 21st being postponed by the government and consequently had made no arrangements for this meeting to be held at the Girls’ School, Rickmansworth. Hopefully the new ‘Freedom’ date of 19th July will see the relaxation of all, or at least most, governmental restrictions and we can return to some form of normality. Personally, and in common with the PGMs of many other Provinces, I have always had in mind the date of 1st September for the date of return to Masonic normality.
Our next meeting will take place four weeks after that date on 29th September at Bushey. By then I hope that the general confidence in returning to meetings will be high. I urge as many of you as possible to attend and ask that you respond to the Calling Notice that you will soon be sent to you either by your Lodge Secretary or via Mailchimp.
Brethren, I promised brevity so I will end by saying “May the Great Overseer of the Universe bless and preserve you, your families and friends – and remember, among Mark Master Masons you will ever find friends”.
