Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master -
I have pleasure in presenting my Annual Report for the period 1st September 2005 to the 31st August 2006.
Although our membership is strong I have to report that a slight fall is shown as against previous years. Whilst 56 members entered our Order, resignations unfortunately rose from that seen over the past few years, with 59 members leaving. Sadly, we also saw a 50% increase in deaths with 25 brethren passing to the Grand Lodge above. However, on the positive side, it is pleasing to report that Exclusions were down to just 3 members, and Advancements in the first 6 months of the current year are up 30% over the same period last year.
Analysis of the ‘Exit’ forms show that increasing age, deteriorating health and moving away are a major reason behind the increase in the number of resignations. Another factor is brethren reducing their multiple memberships, especially of the Installed Masters Lodge.
My detailed report on the Royal Ark Mariner Degree was tabled at the recent Provincial Assembly of Royal Ark Mariners, when I was pleased to report that the number of brethren Elevated and Joining had increased after having been static for the last two years. Again, however, resignations followed a similar pattern as that in the Mark Degree resulting in an overall loss of 4 members.
The ‘Exit’ forms introduced last year have provided much valuable information to members of the Executive as to why brethren are resigning but, unfortunately, not all Secretaries are ensuring these are completed. May I therefore make a plea to all Secretaries to ensure this form is completed as soon as a brother intimates he is resigning, and sent to the Provincial Grand Secretary as soon as possible.
