Inscribed Mauls, Sceptres & Plinths

As a token of recognition of the outstanding generosity and commitment to charitable causes made by the members of our Lodges it has been the practice of the Province for the last few years to present to each Lodge that collectively with its members donates the sum of £1,000 to the Provincial Mark Benevolent Fund a maul and inscribed plinth or in the case of a Royal Ark Mariner Lodge an inscribed sceptre. This not only serves as an acknowledgement by the Province to the generosity of the Lodge but also has a practical function within the Lodge as these most beautiful items of furniture are used during the ceremonies. In addition it also provides a constant and useful reminder to the Brethren of the Lodge and indeed any visitors of the continuing need to support Charity and help where possible those less fortunate than ourselves.

The mauls and sceptres are presented by a member of the provincial executive with the greatest of pleasure on the occasion of his visit to the Lodge and are received with much acclaim by the brethren. In the few years that we have been making these presentations, and thanks to the outstanding efforts of our members, a total of ninety-three mauls & plinths and fifteen sceptres have so far been presented. This is a remarkable achievement. These presentations have proved so popular that we shall be continuing to make them for the foreseeable future and plans are underway to introduce a further token of recognition for additional donations by the way of a special presentation set of working plans.

So I urge you to continue your valuable and much appreciated support to the province and in doing so enhance the appearance and reputation of your Lodge by working together to obtain further mauls or sceptres and ultimately to get the full set of working plans.

Since the Festival, a further 195 "Regular Payment Promises" (the old covenant) have been made totalling £42,474 (before tax) and £157,751 in cash has been received by the Provincial Mark Benevolent Fund including £18,938 in tax reclaimed under Gift Aid.

Below is a list of the Lodges that have contributed so generously to Provincial Charity and acquired mauls and sceptres:

The presentations have been made possible due to the magnificent generosity of the brethren of our Lodges and have enabled the province to acquire and donate a second ambulance to the Order of St John and to make donations to a number of very worthy local charities in the province.

Thank you brethren and keep up the good work.

W Bro Warren Vinecor, PProvGJD
Provincial Grand Charity Steward
