The Lodge was Consecrated on 30th June 1993 by R W Bro Dennis W C Thomas, Provincial Grand Master. It was formed as a result of a discussion between R W Bro George Lee, then PGM for Gloucestershire and R W Bro Thomas when it transpired that there was a “School” Mark Lodge, Old Patesian Lodge No 1387, meeting in Cheltenham.
None such existed in Hertfordshire (or anywhere else) and it seemed right to strengthen the already strong school Lodge movement in Hertfordshire by forming a Lodge in the Mark degree for members of the eight school Craft Lodges in the Province.
The Lodge remains closed to brethren belonging to school Craft Lodges or whose school has a Lodge even though they may not actually belong to it.
Although Hertfordshire based, brethren from elsewhere have been welcomed into the Lodge, as Initiates or joining members. Schools whose Lodges are represented in the Lodge currently number nineteen:
St Albans
Verulam
Stationers
Wellington(Somerset)
Watford Grammar
East Barnet Grammar
Merchant Taylor’s
Berkhampstead
Bedford Modern
UCS
Bishops Stortford
Tudor House (Leicester)
Christ’s Hospital
Tottenham Grammar
Chatham House (Kent)
Hertford
The Leys (Cambridge)
Queen Elizabeth’s and
Newport Grammar.
The Lodge now has 50 Members, the largest working Mark Lodge in the Province. In 2003 the Lodge became the first Mark Lodge to be admitted to The Federation of School Lodges.
