The Ayot Mark and Royal Ark Mariners Lodges (No 1529) run a combined charity fund. Every year the Master and Worshipful Commander each select a local charity to which the fund raising during their year is donated. In 2017 – 2018, the Worshipful Commander (WBro. Mike Herman) selected Herts Young Homeless (HYH) as his chosen charity and on 25th July, in his current role as Charity Steward accompanied by the Treasurer (WBro. David Perkins) visited the HYH office in Hatfield to present a cheque for £500.00 to Alison Wildey (HYH Community & Events Fundraiser)

HYH was founded in 1998 to prevent homelessness by empowering individuals to make positive, informed choices; to support young people, those in crisis and individuals at risk of becoming homeless. Last year, HYH helped over 2,300 vulnerable people get their lives back on track so their work is as vital now as when the charity was founded 20 years ago.
Among the services that our donation will help support are:

Nightstop Herts, which provides emergency accommodation for 18-24 year-olds in the home of an approved volunteer. This service is a lifeline for young people who may otherwise find themselves sleeping rough.
The new Live Life project run by ex-HYH service users who want to use their experiences of homelessness to help others who find themselves in that situation.
